Dosimetric assessment and secondary cancer risk in breast radiotherapy: a Monte Carlo approach

چکیده

To calculate the risk of secondary cancer induction resulting from this dose through a Monte Carlo simulation code and voxel-based anthropomorphic phantom to determine radiation in organs and/or tissues with dosimetric importance effect using static MLC 3D-CRT technique. In work, radiotherapy treatment breast was simulated transport MCNPX 2.7.0 adult simulator FSTA_H50_M50. The absorbed doses for set were determined. A LINAC Varian 2100C device operated two techniques simulated: 2D open field (OF) 3D-conformational (3D-CRT), latter use multilayer collimator (MLC) breast, both acting 6 MV energy. highest values obtained ipsilateral lung (7.22 Gy (3D-CRT) 8.49 (OF)) contralateral (6.29 6.56 (OF)), generating these greatest risks induction. With OF technique, due non-collimation beam, there an increase all compared 3D-CRT, thus evidencing more effective improving homogeneity conformity target organ.

Assessment of secondary particles in breast proton therapy by Monte Carlo simulation code using MCNPX

Background: The present study aimed to investigate the equivalent dose in vital organs, including heart and lung, due to secondary particles produced during breast proton therapy. Materials and Methods: The numerical ORNL female-phantom was improved and simulated using the Monte Carlo MCNPX code. The depth-dose profile of proton beams with different energies was simulated. Dosimetric comparison of whole breast radiotherapy using field in field and conformal radiotherapy techniques in early stage breast cancer

Background: We aimed to compare field-in-field technique (FIF) with conformal tangential field radiotherapy (CRT) in terms of dosimetric benefits for early stage breast cancer radiotherapy. Materials and Methods: Twenty consecutive left-side breast cancer patients who underwent breast-conserving surgery were included to the study. For each patient, two different treatment plans were cr...

Dosimetric comparison of conventional and field-in-field techniques in early stage breast cancer radiotherapy

Introduction: Breast conserving surgery followed by adjuvant radiotherapy (RT) of the whole breast is accepted as the treatment of choice in early stage breast cancer. Due to breast irregularities, it is difficult to access homogenous dose distribution with conventional techniques. Currently, it is possible to use varied breast irradiation techniques, such as field- in-field (F...

A Monte Carlo simulation and dosimetric verification of physical wedges used in radiation therapy

Background: The presence of a wedge filter in the beam trajectory can modify the beam quality and cause some changes in the dosimetry parameters which are usually difficult to be measured directly and accurately. Material and Methods: In this study the MCNP-4C Monte Carlo code was used to simulate the 9 MV photon beam generated by a linear accelerator. Upon getting a good agreement bet...
